Trailblazer – Hunter S.

When you think of the word “Trailblazer”, what comes to your mind? In our community at MKT Fit, a “Trailblazer” is not just something that gets you from one place to another and has 4 wheels.

MKT Trailblazers are:

-Leaders who pave paths for others in this “wild country”

That is why, this month, we have chosen Hunter Sheckley as our official Trailblazer of the Month. Going on 2 years as a loyal member to MKT Fit and a medical student, Hunter’s energy, passion, and dedication to his work and his health and wellness goals shines.

To get know more about him, we reached out to to ask him random questions about himself; some serious and some fun. Here is what we learned about Hunter:


1) What made you get involved at MKT Fit?

My initial involvement with MKT Fit occurred a little due to serendipity and probably a lot due to my competitive nature. I showed up to a class by chance during the spring of my freshman year of college and I loved the intensity of the workouts. At the end of the workout, I remembered getting fist bumps and being welcomed as if I were a family member and I was hooked.

2) What is one goal you have for the year?

This year since it will be one of my harder years of medical school my goal is to maintain a regular schedule to the gym so that I can get better at gymnastics.

3) What’s your favorite exercise movement?

Definitely the power clean. It is my go-to movement when I am stressed, happy, sad, or mad.

4) What is your favorite class in school/college?

As much as I should say one of my science courses I think it would have to be my Advanced Ceramics course that I took a senior year of college.

5) If you had an extra hour of free time every day, how would you use it?

I would spend it doing something active or creating something. Most likely you would see me at the gym, but you could also find me on the local mountain bike trails.

6) What is your favorite workout music?

Metalcore for sure! Anything with slamming double bass pedals, guttural growls, and shredding guitars gets my blood pumping. 

7) What is your favorite book, and why?

Probably The Last of the Breed by Louis Lamour because it shows a man who survives using archaic methods. The book is packed with action and adventure and I swear it has the best beginning and end to a book that I have read. 

8) What would you name the autobiography of your life?

“We are the Shadow”, It’s the end of a song by an Australian metalcore group For All Eternity

9) What superpower would you want to possess?

Definitely, the Force. I dreamed of being a Jedi as a kid. 

10) What was the most important lesson you’ve had to learn?

The lowest positions in your life make you respect and appreciate the higher positions that you gain through hard work. This has helped me appreciate how far I’ve come and where I have been both academically and physically. It also helps me see how impressive other peoples journeys whether they are at the beginning or the end. 

11)  What three items would you take on a deserted island?  

  • A Knife
  • Clothing that is light and breathable with a high UPF rating
  • The Bible. It always reads differently each time you look at it.
